5 Pointz Graffiti Mecca Gets Wiped Clean
After 20 years of graffiti art hosting, the abandoned warehouse in Long Island City known as “5 Pointz” has been white washed. The white washing catastrophe occurred on Monday night and was ordered by the building’s owner Jerry Wolkoff. Wolkoff announced last month that the graffiti mecca would be torn down to build luxury condos.
Graffiti art enthusiasts believe the white washing was done in response to their efforts to landmark 5 Pointz. Wolkoff claims that the overnight white wash was done to prevent torturing graffiti fans, making them watch the building get torn down piece by piece. ”It’s like a Band-Aid, I just felt, one shot.” Wolkoff said.
